The Story of Pixyboots
Art, how it came about and how it evolves to film
Since the pandemic and welcoming her first child in 2020, Pixyboots the artist has been reflecting a lot on life and death. What is on her bucket list, how many more years she might have, what she fears the most doing, that sort of thing. This introspection inspired her decision to pivot her film distribution company toward a new creative path — art and film creation.
Ever since she was four, she has been honing her craft of drawing, painting, cutting papers and experimenting with various tapes and glue and creating large format drawings with used A4-sized paper from her father's Singapore Airlines office. She reckons that since her full-time obsession was to wake up at 5am everyday to start drawing, sitting on the living room floor (she was not allowed to draw at the table), she has definitely clocked more than 10,000 hours in her art.
At 16, she was at a crossroads and decided she wanted to be a film director. After a Bachelor of Arts and Master's in film and tv, she spent two decades honing her craft in film production, management, and distribution. In 2024, she finally realized her long-held dream of being a director. Her short film GONG reaches an exciting new chapter in April 2025, when it makes its international premiere in FANTASPOA, Latin America's largest genre film festival. It will be competing for the festival's selection to the Méliès d’Argent Best Short Film Award.

The name "PIXYBOOTS" came about because
a dear friend from England loved to call the founder "PIXY"
and on a cold winter day, he gave her furry boots
and chanted "PIXY BOOTS, PIXY BOOTS".
